Today, I’m taking you through our first deep dive into Beachbody. Get your Shakeology ready for this one. We’re going through the signup process to becoming a coach.
If you live in the US, Canada, UK, or France, and are 18 years old with a government ID (SSN/EIN), good news: you can now be a health and fitness coach! Oh wait, you also need to pay. But we’ll get to financials in a bit.
Upon signing up, you get a few things that are all included in their digital business starter kit.
And once being signed up, you have the chance to buy their Total-Solution Pack. The chance to buy something! Here’s just a sample of some of your pack options.
The good news here is that your $39.95 initial startup fee will be waived when you buy one of these packs. (However, you will still have to pay $15.95 a month for the business service fee). What a savings??
Now you’re officially a Beachbody Coach. You promote on your Instagram and other socials that you’re a health and fitness coach (and an influencer, but that’s a topic for a different day). How easy it was to become a health and fitness coach! No training, no classes, no certifications. Just sign up in less than 5 minutes, buy a pack of stuff, and you’re a coach.
In contrast, to become a certified personal trainer from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, you must take at least 12 weeks of classes, be certified in both CPR and AED, and pass the test from NASM. You must get re-certified every two years in CPR and AED, plus have 20 contact hours (CEUs) in order for re-cert.
The second part to a health and fitness coach, specifically for this Beachbody Coach, is the eating part. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, here’s what each state in the US requires in regards to nutrition and dietetics:
Beachbody requires none of this, even though on their website it states:
“What does it mean to be a Team Beachbody Coach? It means the ability to help yourself and others live healthier, more fulfilling lives with the opportunity to earn additional income along the way.”
It just doesn’t add up.
Anyway, you’ve signed up as a Coach and you’re ready to make money. How does that happen? You have to be an active coach. To maintain your active status within Beachbody, you must have 50 PV (personal volume) points. As defined on their site:
“Personal Volume (PV) is a value assigned to products and membership services sold in a Bonus Earning Period. It’s generated either from a Coach’s personal purchases or the purchases of the Coach’s personal retail customers. PV is used to determine Active Status and is also a factor in achieving new Ranks; which in turn is used in calculating the payout earned by a Coach for each Cycle.”
An easy way to spend that 50 PV to stay active for the month is to get a monthly shipment of Shakeology. It retails, for a month’s supply, at $129.95. However, as a Coach, it costs you $97.46 a month.
If you happen to miss a month of Shakeology, or don’t spend enough to hit that 50 PV for a month, you become inactive. And when you become inactive, you lose a lot.
You can also make money through commission, personal volume (PV), team volume (TV), earning volume (EV), and bonuses. Each of those money making opportunities are calculated differently, and will be broken down in future articles, since it’s a complex system. Additionally, the different ranks within the Coach program deliver varying quantities in calculations.
Now here’s the absolute basic calculations on what you would spend in 1 year as a Coach in Beachbody.
Initial Start Up Fee: $39.95 (but we’re waiving it since you’re ordering a product pack, so it’s $0)
Business Service Fee: $15.95/month x 11 months = $175.45
Total Solution Pack: $159.95 + $2.00 shipping = $161.95
Shakeology: $97.46/month x 11 months = $1,072.06
Shakeology Shipping: $2.00/month x 11 months = $22.00
Total: $1,431.46
- Remember, the average Coach earnings, according to their income disclosure statement, is $439 for the year.
- With the basic 1 year spending total, minus the average 1 year earning, you would actually lose $992.46.
